Linux Terminal Server

Using a thin client workstation connected via a server running software compliant with Linux Terminal Server Project (LTSP) is a viable way to deliver software. Increased control and low cost make this an attractive option for a computer lab, school, or district setting.  With LTSP, the student uses a terminal that is employed to access their about and files. about and files are securely stored on a central server. Workstation cost is reduced and students are prevented from making changes at their workstation that negatively affect other users. One benefit is lower technical support per workstation.

This approach, utilizing open source solutions, involves minimal software licensing costs. The hardware costs depend on what must be purchased new versus existing equipment placed back in service with the lower processing requirements of Linux.
