Early Childhood Training & ConsultationDevelops and offers training throughout the region for early care and education professionals, and public school teachers working with young children ages 0-8, and their families. Training is provided by EDUCATION CONNECTION Early Childhood Specialists. On site consultation is offered in the areas of curriculum, assessment, inclusion and disabilities. |
Happy Children Happy FamiliesCulturally sensitive intervention services for Danbury families and childcare providers who have concerns around the behavioral and emotional challenges of their young children (0-7 years). Direct services to families are home based and include resources and referrals. |
Litchfield County Early Head StartHome-based services for expectant families and children ages birth to three, who meet eligibility requirements. Services include weekly home visits in the areas of health, nutrition, education, social services, and parent involvement, as well as playgroups serving Torrington and Winsted areas. |
Family Resource CentersSchool-based family support programs in Torrington and Plymouth, which work to integrate families into the elementary schools. Family Resource Centers services include: child care, preschool, playgroups for infants through 5 years, before and after school care for school age children, home visitation to families, parent support, adult education, resource and referral, support for family child care providers, and positive youth development. |
Litchfield County Head StartCenter-based and home-based services to children, 3-5 years old, and their families. An array of comprehensive services: education, mental health, nutrition, health and social services are available to families who meet the eligibility requirements. Current sites are located in Litchfield, Plymouth, Torrington, and Winsted. |
Northwest and Southwest Accreditation Facilitation ProjectsState-wide initiative to improve the quality of early childhood programs through NAEYC accreditation and to provide training to early childhood caregivers. Support to programs is provided through workshops, group meetings, on-site technical assistance, staff development opportunities, and shared resources. |
Regional Family Support NetworkLinks parent support groups to other groups through development of a regional network of family support groups to maximize their effectiveness and connectivity. Family support groups consist of parents of children with special needs and other parents who come together around issues within their communities, their children’s disability, and general support. |
School Readiness InitiativeAffordable, accessible, and quality preschool child care experiences for children ages 3-4, preparing them to succeed in school. EDUCATION CONNECTION directly supports School Readiness programs in Danbury, Plymouth, and Torrington. Support services include facilitating the work of the Councils, providing training for child care staff and directors, and supporting the national accreditation |
S.E.E.D.(Services for Early Education and Development) - Early intervention program providing services to children ages birth to three with developmental delays or disabilities in 28 towns. Evaluation and services are delivered to children and families in their natural environment, with the goal of supporting parents as their children grow and develop. Staff is comprised of early interventionists that are licensed, certified, or trained in various specialties including early childhood and special education; speech, physical, and occupational therapies; autism and other related disabilities. |
TLC Autism ProgramTLC (Teach, Learn, Communicate) Autism Program provides comprehensive early intervention services and assessment to children with characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in 36 towns. Individualized services are directed at sharing strategies with families which will enhance their child’s development and can be incorporated into the child’s natural daily routines and activities. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) oversees a staff comprised of early interventionists that are licensed, certified, or trained in various specialties including early childhood and special education; speech, physical, and occupational therapies; autism and other related disabilities. |
Western Connecticut State University Child Care CenterAn accredited National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) program, providing high quality, developmentally appropriate learning experiences for 32 children ages three to five. Two-thirds of the enrollment is comprised of children of university staff and students, with one-third of children from the surrounding community. |
Community Planning for Young ChildrenConvenes community groups, parents, business partners to plan services and supports to increase positive outcomes for children that ensure children are ready and healthy to enter school. |
Foster Care Clinic of Northwestern ConnecticutA regional collaborative program with Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and funded through the Connecticut Department of Children and Families to provide medical and behavioral health screenings for children placed into foster care for the first time |
