Free Classes
Mandated courses are free and structured to meet the requirements of the school districts and the needs of the students. They provide avenues to successfully completing State of Connecticut requirements for high school completion. The Region One Adult High School Diploma program is offered at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village. The EDUCATION CONNECTION Adult High School Diploma program is offered at various sites throughout the consortium.  The External Diploma program is offered in Torrington. The GED (General Education Development) is offered at 6 locations - Torrington, Thomaston, Region 14, Region 15, Region 1 and Region 7. In addition, most sites offer classes in English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education, and Citizenship.

Abe Classes
Learn or review basic reading,writing and math skills. Begin in ABE and then move to GED classes.
Locations: Falls Village, Winsted, Torrington Citizenship
Prepare for the American Citizenship test. Receive assistance with the citizenship application. Discuss the rights, responsibilities and privileges of citizenship. Develop skills speaking, understanding, reading and writing English.
Class locations and time designed to meet the needs of the students. ESL Program
Designed to help non-English speaking adults to read and write English.
Locations: Falls Village, Thomaston, Torrington, Winsted, Woodbury External Diploma
The EDP allows adults to demonstrate their abilities in a series of simulations that parallel job and life situations. This is a portfolio assessment program and is particularly appropriate for adults, 21 years of age and older.  Admission is based on work experience, appraisal assessment and counselor recommendation. A minimum 6 month participation is required and upon completion, the student is awarded a Torrington Adult Education High School diploma.

GED
Prepare for the GED examination to earn a State of CT high school diploma. The GED is a five-part exam in Math, Literature, Social Studies, Science and Writing. To take the GED exam, students 17 or 18 must show proof that they have been formally withdrawn from school for 6 months or that their 9th grade class has graduated.

Earn a Housatonic Valley Regional High School Adult Education High School Diploma or an EDUCATION CONNECTION Adult High School Diploma by attending evening classes. Study English, Social Studies, Math and Science.  Day school credits are transferable.
